This Memorial Day take time to remember and honor the United States Armed Forces with your family. Although Ristorante La Perla is closed for the day, we urge you to venture out and explore what Washington D.C. has to offer on this Memorial Day. There are activities and venues for everyone whether out with family, out with friends or out exploring the city solo.
A Memorial Day in Washington D.C. wouldn’t be perfect without attending the Country’s largest Memorial Day parade down Constitution Avenue at 2 p.m. With plenty of groups and performers marching to honor the U.S. Military, it is an entertaining choice for everyone no matter the situation. Remember to arrive early to save the best seats because the parade is something you don’t want to miss!
If you would like to truly pay your respects attend the Arlington National Cemetery where the Flag-In ceremony is performed. Flags are placed at over a quarter of a million graves over the weekend and is a sight to behold. As well, on Memorial Day a wreath-laying ceremony and concert is held to honor the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There isn’t a better day to take in historic monuments dedicated to men and women who have fought for the United States in its wars.
Before or after the parade would be perfect opportunities to explore the National Mall memorials built to honor those men and women who served in America’s past and present wars. An awe inspiring site of history and beauty, there are plenty of memorials to explore. Start with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial before heading to the National World War II Memorial. Conclude your walk at the Lincoln Memorial overlooking the open beauty of the National Mall.
Keeping the theme of exploring alive, the Smithsonian Museums on the National Mall are open this Memorial Day as well. This is a perfect time to take your family and friends and learn something new about our ancestors at the National Museum of Natural History. Or if flying to the moon has ever interested you, take in the National Air and Space Museum!
While dabbling in different Memorial Day activities we don’t want you to forget the wonderful opportunities you will have to experience D.C.’s unique dining options. Be sure to check out Memorial Day Shuckfest from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at City Tap House at 901 9th St. Specializing in oysters of any kind, admission is free for the live entertainment however drinks and dishes are sold separately. If seafood is not for you, call and reserve a table at Local 16 for their Memorial Day bottomless brunch from 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
